Miller Park Zoo welcomes new residents, open South America habitats

By Michelle Mitchell Jun 23, 2023 | 11:25 AM

On June 23 the Miller Park Zoo welcomed visitors to their new South America habitats that feature some new residents. “Puddles” the Chilean pudu and “Chili” the giant anteater join zoo staples “Gala” and “Pagos,” who are Galápagos tortoise.

Wes Styles spoke with Miller Park Zoo curator Pearl Yusuf and director Jay Pratte about the new residents.

The new South America habitats are now open for visitors to see thanks to a $1.1 million project by an Illinois Department of Natural Resources grant, the Miller Park Zoological Society, and the Ewing Zoo Foundation.
