Joe Egan, the co-founder and co-frontman of the Scottish band Stealers Wheel, has died at the age of 77. Stealers Wheel is perhaps best known for their 1972 hit, “Stuck in the Middle with You.” The single went on to sell over one million copies, peaking at No. 6 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart while reaching No. 8 in the UK charts. “Stuck in the Middle with You” was famously used in Quentin Tarantino’s 1992 film, Reservoir Dogs. Egan formed the band with Gerry Rafferty in Paisley, Scotland, in 1972. News of Egan’s death was shared on the late Rafferty’s (who died back in 2011) Facebook page that is run by his daughter Martha: “Very sad news that the other half of Stealers Wheel, Joe Egan, passed away peacefully yesterday afternoon [July 6th] with his nearest and dearest around him. I will always remember him as a sweet and gentle soul. May he rest in peace.” (Consequence of Sound)
