Sérgio Mendes, the renowned Brazilian musician known for globalizing bossa nova music in the ’60s, has died at 83 from the long-term effects of COVID-19. His wife and children were reportedly by his side at the time of his death.


Tyreek Hill was detained for a traffic incident near the Miami Dolphins‘ stadium hours before his season opener. Video showed him handcuffed on the ground as police surrounded him. Hill was released and played in the game.


Dick Van Dyke, 98, tied as the oldest recipient of a Creative Arts Emmy for his special Dick Van Dyke 98 Years of Magic. The show, featuring career highlights, won Outstanding Variety Special. He won a Daytime Emmy in June.


Sha Na Na’s pianist, Screamin’ Scott Simon, has passed away at 75 from sinus cancer. He was a member for 52 years, could play piano with his feet, appeared in Grease, and co-wrote the song “Sandy” sung by John Travolta.


Ashley Tisdale, known for High School Musical and Suite Life, welcomed a second child, Emerson Clover French. Tisdale and husband Christopher French are parents to daughter Jupiter Iris. She included a photo on Instagram.


Michael Connelly announced that the Freevee series Bosch: Legacy, based on his book series, will end after three seasons. The show, a sequel to Bosch starring Titus Welliver, will premiere its final season on Prime in March.
