The Los Angeles County district attorney has declined to charge Marilyn Manson following a four-year investigation into allegations of sexual assault and domestic violence against the shock rocker.
An investigation by the LA County Sheriff’s Department began in 2021, shortly after Manson’s ex Evan Rachel Wood wrote in an Instagram post that the musician, born Brian Warner, had “horrifically abused [her] for years.” The LASD submitted its findings to the district attorney in 2022.
The latest update in the investigation came in October 2024, when then-DA George Gascón said that “New evidence has emerged” in the case.
In a statement issued Friday, the office of succeeding DA Nathan J. Hochman says, “We have determined that allegations of domestic violence fall outside of the statute of limitations, and we cannot prove charges of sexual assault beyond a reasonable doubt.”
“We recognize and applaud the courage and resilience of the women who came forward to make reports and share their experiences, and we thank them for their cooperation and patience with the investigation,” the statement reads. “While we are unable to bring charges in this matter, we recognize that the strong advocacy of the women involved has helped bring greater awareness to the challenges faced by survivors of domestic abuse and sexual assault.”
Following Wood’s initial allegations, which she further detailed in the documentary Phoenix Rising, several other women came forward also accusing Warner of abuse. Warner has denied all allegations and filed a lawsuit against Wood, which was dropped in November 2024.
In 2024, Warner also launched his comeback as a musician for the first time since the Wood allegations, going on tour and releasing a new album, One Assassination Under God – Chapter 1. He’ll launch another U.S. tour in May.
